The weather is hot and humid the rest of the year. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, visit Hoi An during the shoulder season in March or April.
However, the summer months are also a great time to visit, as temperatures are still comfortable and there are fewer tourists. April and May are the best months to visit if you’re interested in sightseeing, as many of the temples are open during this time. If you’re looking to go shopping, September and October are the best months, as there’s a large trade fair that takes place at that time.
I had planned my trip in the month of June, the weather was amazing in the evening, with moderate rains and cool breeze. The afternoons are very hot and humid, but if you like clicking pictures then afternoons are the best time, as the entire town is empty. Post 4:00 pm you will start noticing tourist crows in bulk, which will make you think if you should have come here.
How To Reach Hoi An
Reaching the ancient city of Hoi An is easy, whether by air or by land. The most popular way is by air. You can fly to the Danang airport which is about a 50-minute drive from Hoi An. There are a few airlines that fly into Danang from around the world, including Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, and Indigo. The flight costs about 3000-6000 INR and takes about an hour and a half from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. There are several flights a day, so finding a time that works for you should not be a problem. There are also several low-cost carriers that offer competitive rates for flights between these two destinations. There are buses and taxis available to take visitors from the Danang airport to Hoi An. Buses cost around 350 INR and taxis cost around 500-100 INR to the main city.
There are also buses available from other major cities in Vietnam, making it a convenient destination visit for tourists traveling around the country. The cheapest and most popular way is by bus. Some buses depart from Hanoi’s main bus station. The trip takes around 12-15 hours and the cost is around 1200 INR. Some buses depart from the Ha Long bus station, which is located about 2 hours outside of Hanoi. These buses tend to be a bit more expensive and take slightly longer to reach Hoi An (around 17 hours).
I had booked my flights from Hanoi to Danang, via kayak website. It cost me around 3.2k with 20 kg baggage allowance. If you only have a 7kg cabin then the flight cost will reduce to 2.5k. Vietjet, Bamboo Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and more are a few options from which you can book your domestic flights. I had opted for Bamboo Airlines, they had good reviews and less cancellation or delays as compared to VietJet.

There are many places to rent bicycles in Hoi An, and it’s a fun way to see the sights. If you’re looking for a bit more speed, motorbikes are also an option. There are many places to rent motorbikes as well, and it’s the best way to explore the surrounding area. Just be careful when driving – Vietnamese roads can be chaotic!
Tip: I would suggest after 4:00 PM always prefer walking around the old town, as the tourist crowds will make it difficult for you to move around on bicycles.
Another way to explore the town is by cyclo. Cyclos are three-wheeled pedal taxis that can be found throughout Hoi An. The drivers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the town, and they can take you to all of the best places to see and visit. Prices for cyclo rides are very reasonable, and it’s a great way to see the town without having to walk.
There are plenty of taxis in Hoi An, and they are very affordable. You can always hail a taxi on the street, but it’s best to call ahead if you have a specific destination in mind. Taxis are color-coded according to their destinations, so it’s easy to find one that will take you where you want to go. Be sure to agree on a price before getting in the taxi.

Suggested Budgets
If you are on a tight budget in Hoi An, you need to spend about 2500 INR per day which includes a room at a hostel near the Old Town, local street food, and budget-friendly meals and drinks. You might be able to get some of the local attractions, but not many. If you want to eat better or take your sightseeing up a notch, add about 400 INR per day to your cash budget to cover the street food you like and the more expensive attractions at your desired location.
A rather moderate daily budget of nearly 4500 INR will cover a bedroom in a 3-star hotel, dinners at mid-range eating establishments, an inordinate quantity of drinks, and a few more city attractions. You needn’t stay on the budget while you’re there.
If you’re planning for luxury, you need to spend about 7500 INR per day in the best high-end hotels. You can get some greatly priced four-star hotels willing to spend this much money, even for a stay. If you’re spending this much (or more than this), there’s nothing you can’t do in this city.
