How to reach Dzukou Valley

To reach Dzukou Valley, start by flying into Guwahati, the capital city of Assam in north-eastern India. From there, you will have two option to pick:

1- Book a car to reach Dimapur or Kohima, you can check out different options to get the beat deal on the prices. But be prepare to spend 10-12 hours on the road.

The flight cost from Mumbai to Guwahati will be 14-16k per person return.

2- Take a midnight train from Guwahati to Dimapur, from there you can look for local share cabs to reach Kohima which will take 2-21/2 hours. 

Train cost: Sleeper non-AC will be roughly around 600-800 pp
Cab cost: Off season- 300-400 pp and Peak season- 600-800 pp

Another not so budget friendly option is to fly directly to Dimapur. The flight cost from Mumbai to Dimapur was showing 30-40k including return for per person. 

From Kohima, it is about a 2-hour drive to the base of Dzukou Valley. There are two ways to reach the Dzukou valley:
1- Viswema- You can start your trek from this village, it is convenient and easy too. The start part is a little steep and tricky but the rest of the part is easy walking.

2- Jakhama or Zhakama- This route is difficult there are more than 8000 steps to ascend or descend. You can descend from this end, but be prepared to climb down 8000 steps.

The hike takes about 4-5 hours one way and is a moderate to difficult trek through beautiful forests and rolling hills. The jeep rides takes about 45 mins from Viswema village to the starting point of trek and is a bumpy ride through rugged terrain. Once you reach the valley, you can enjoy the stunning views and explore the surrounding areas on foot.

Best time to visit Dzukou Valley

The best time to visit Dzukou Valley is during the months of May to October, when the weather is pleasant and the valley is blooming with various flowers. The temperature ranges from 10°C to 25°C during this time, making it perfect for sightseeing and trekking. 

Avoid visiting during the rainy season from November to April as the valley becomes slippery and dangerous to traverse. The summer months of June to August are the peak season for tourists, so it is recommended to book accommodation and transportation in advance.
