GM Diet- do not try it!
GM diet is the world’s most popular diet plan and go-to diet plan for college girls to fit into their beautiful dress or for to-be-bride to fit in her wedding dress. GM diet originated from General Motors. It was initially designed by General motors corporation for health and fitness of its employees.
GM plan focuses on the consumption of specific food per day and covers seven days. The reason why I am writing this blog is not to encourage but to highlight the critical aspects and effects of the GM diet.
I tried it twice till date, the first one was during my early college days and wasn’t a successful one as I couldn’t follow as mentioned, the last I tried GM diet was when I was planning my solo trip to Thailand and wanted to look awesome in shorts and beachwear.
Before moving further, I would like to recommend consulting a nutritionist and do not jump on a plan, just because it is interesting.
With background research about GM diet, I chalked all the grocery items, fruits that I would need to consume for the week. With no room to cheat, the diet had to be followed religiously to show results. It requires you to eat the same kind of things all through the day and makes you want to hate that fruit or food. The plan has both Veg and Non-Veg version. You also have to increase water intake in the body.

Day One: Eat all fruits, except bananas. There is no limit to the maximum amount of fruits to be consumed. Eating Melons is encouraged. The diet doesn’t specify a maximum amount.
Day Two: Eat only vegetables in raw or cooked form, you can include boiled potato in your meal preferably in breakfast. You can have GM diet soup for lunch and dinner. The diet doesn’t specify a maximum amount.
Day Three: Eat only fruits and vegetables of any kind except bananas and potatoes. The diet doesn’t specify a maximum amount.
Day Four: Consume six large or 8 small Bananas and at least 3 Skim milk glasses through the day, you would notice that the sugar cravings have reduced on this day. You can increase the intake if you feel hungrier.
Day Five: You can eat 250 grams of meat today, and if you are vegetarian you can replace meat with brown rice and paneer. Also, you may eat six whole tomatoes or tomato soup but no cream.
Day Six: Eat lean meat, i.e. fish and chicken on this day, you can also eat unlimited veggies but no potatoes. Vegetarians replace meat with brown rice and paneer. Increase your water intake by two glasses to flush out extra uric acid.
Day Seven: Brown rice, fruit juices, and unlimited vegetables, no maximum amount is specified for any of these foods.
GM diet does give immediate results, where an individual could lose 5-8 kgs in a week, but it lacks any form of physical activity necessary for any weight loss program
Food intake restrictions can affect your body, and hence diet is not suitable for the long run.
Frequently following this diet could result in hair loss, headaches, dry skin, fatigue, and general weakness.
Weight loss is only superficial, and you regain the lost pounds when you get back to a regular diet of yours. It is because the metabolism will not be able to process the calories consumed and the body will store the fat. It is hence making you fat.
Restrictions cut down on other necessary nutrient intakes of your body, causing nutritional deficiency. Limitations are the main reason why you have a persistent weakness.
During the diet week, the muscles are deprived of necessary proteins and hence gets weak; it takes time for the body to get back in its original shape with proper nutrients intake.
Should you do it?
After my last experience, it is not something that I would advise anyone to do, because anything that gives instant results, cannot be side-effects free. Just like ready to eat Maggie, and similar quick meals fixes, I would pass on the GM diet.
GM diet gives quick results but cannot be adopted for the long run and hence a proper diet plan with dieticians consultancy, and adequate work out is the way to go for long.
